Visit to, Bromley House Library Saturday 14th February at 1:30 pm

Bromley House Library – an independent Subscription Library established in 1816.  The inaugural lectures of the Medico-Chirurgical society were held at Bromley House Library, and it became their base for several years. It was also the meeting place of the original MedChi meetings.

This guided tour will begin with refreshments followed by a top to bottom tour of the library, explore the book lined rooms, learn more about the collection, past members and the amazing story of this Georgian townhouse and a library.

MedChi appropriate materials will be on display for you, including a few early nineteenth century books

24 January 2026 – Origami Workshop

Please join us on Saturday 24th of January for a 2 hour workshop held at the PGMEC, City Hospital from 10:00 am to 12:00pm

At great expense, MedChi have persuaded origami black belt, Sensei David Bogod, to descend from his mountain-top temple in Gamston and deign to share some of his most closely-guarded paper-folding secrets with a select band of acolytes from MedChi.  Expect the usual mild chaos that has marked previous iterations of this event as, together, we fail to master the complexities of the outside reverse fold and – let it only be whispered – the closed sink.  Come and join the fold!

Fee of £15 per person (£20 for non-members), inclusive of materials.

14 January 2026 Dr Norman McConachie Tony Mitchell Memorial Lecture ‘Advances in endovascular management of neurovascular disease’

Please join us Wednesday 14th of January at 7pm in the Lecture Theater PGMEC City Hospital Campus for a talk by Dr Norman McConachie MBChB FRCR, Consultant Interventional Neuroradiologist, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust

Consultant Interventional Neuroradiologis, Dr. Norman McConachie is President of the British Society of Neuroradiologists, the immediate past Chair of the United Kingdom Neurointerventional Group and an examiner for the Intercollegiate Specialty Examination Board in Neurosurgery.

He is the author of several book chapters and numerous scientific papers concerning craniofacial trauma, imaging of brain tumours, intracranial haemorrhage, embolisation of aneurysms, mechanical thrombectomy for acute stroke and non-accidental injury in children. Dr McConachie is instructed to act as an expert witness in personal injury and clinical negligence cases in the areas of head and spinal injury, birth-related injury/cerebral palsy, interventional neuroradiology and diagnostic MRI of the brain and spine.

22 November 2025 – Festive Decorations, Glass Fusion Workshop

Please come a join us for a two hour morning Glass Fusion Workshop held at the PGMEC, City Hospital from 10:00 am to 12:00pm

Over the years we’ve made mini wreaths, mini trees, Rudolphs, Santas and more, all to decorate your tree or give as gifts at Christmas. With this workshop we will aim to make 3 in any design you choose, more can be made if you have time for a small extra cost. All are made with precut glass and simple step by step designs which are left open for personalisation. As always, plenty of options to add sparkles!

Fee of £30 per person (£35 for non-members), inclusive of materials to make 3 designs each.

14 November 2025 – Archives Tour of the MedChi Collection of books

Join us for our trip to the University of Nottingham held at Kings Meadow Campus, University of Nottingham, Kings Meadow, Lenton Ln., Nottingham NG7 2NR, from 10:30 to 12 pm.

This time we shall be seeing the digitalisation process as well as seeing the store and handling the fabulous books – some books going back to the 1500’s. They are truly stunning.

Please book as soon as possible as we can only take 12 people and places last year went very fast.

12 November 2025, Mrs Rachel Buckingham, ‘Sea Legs – Life and Surgery on board the Mercy Ships’

Please join us on Wednesday 12 of November at 7 pm to welcome Mrs Buckingham MBChB FRCS (T&O),

Mrs Buckingham is a graduate of Bristol medical school.

She undertook her orthopaedic training the South West of England followed

by a clinical fellowship at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford.

Mrs Buckingham was appointed as a Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon in 2007.

 

 

 

29 October 2025, The Muir Lecture. Mr Henry Marsh ‘Prima non nocere – Painful lessons from 45 years in Neurosurgery ’

Tonight’s lecture, by Mr Henry Marsh, is dedicated to Dr Margaret Grace Muir

‘The Muir Lecture’ generously supported by a legacy from the family of Dr Margaret Grace Muir who lived locally, and sadly died of Muscular dystrophy in her 50s and whose husband wanted to leave money to the Society on her behalf.

‘I know my mother and father would be very honoured to be associated with such an interesting and prestigious lecture, given by such an eminent figure as Mr Henry Marsh CBE FRCS’
