29 October 2025 Mr Henry Marsh ‘Prima non nocere – Painful lessons from 45 years in Neurosurgery ’

Susannah Basile, interim CEO ‘Doctors in Distress: Caring for those who care for us’

Susannah Basile has been part of Doctors in Distress since its inception in 2020 and currently serves as the charity’s Interim CEO. With a background in politics and communications, she brings a deep understanding of how powerful narratives can drive cultural change—particularly around mental health in the medical profession.
A passionate advocate for open conversations and systemic support around mental wellbeing, Susannah is committed to breaking the stigma that too often prevents healthcare professionals from seeking help. Her work focuses on creating environments where people feel empowered to speak up and supported to thrive.
Susannah lives in Cambridgeshire with her husband and young son, and continues to be inspired every day by the resilience of those working on the frontlines of healthcare.

21 May 2025 -Dr Jamie Black and Dr Elizabeth Mumby ‘There and Back Again – a Kiwi Tale’

Wednesday 21st of May. We welcome Dr Jamie Back (trainee anaesthetist) and Dr Elizabeth Mumby (GP trainee) to tell of their experiences working and training in NZ and trying to navigate a way back into the doctor depleted NHS – not as easy as it sounds

Dr Jamie Back  and Dr Elizabeth Mumby qualified from St George’s and Southampton respectively and are both currently working in Cornwall. In August 2024 they returned to the UK having worked and trained for nearly 4 years in New Zealand – in anaesthetics, ICU, and on the rescue helicopter.

When not travelling, they both love surfing, trail running, skiing, hiking and tennis. They are getting married in September at Elizabeth’s family home in Newark.

Please join us on May 2025 (date TBC) at the PGMEC, City Hospital Campus (free parking at the rear of the Centre) or via Teams. Wine and Nibbles available from 18:30 with the talk starting at 19:00

You are warmly invited to hear about the exploits of a recent MedChi President describing his passion for wildlife photography. David Bogod is a multitalented anaesthetist and accomplished raconteur. He recently retired from NUH, is well known for his medicolegal work and as quizmaster for the ‘university challenge quiz’ on 4th June.
